Our client is an established business with the objective of assisting the providers of maritime services with engineering support to provide high quality innovative and cost effective systems of maritime service delivery.

The client has extensive experience in the specialised areas of maritime technology enabling it to efficiently and effectively manage, construct and maintain aids to navigation networks, maritime information systems (including Vessel Traffic Management) and associated maritime assets.

Due to continuous growth in the demand for their services out client is seeking to employ 2 x Electronic Technician –Navigation Aid Technician (Maritime) immediately.

Electronic Technician Job Duties:

Desirable :

• A licence, registration or certification from country of origin is required for this Technical or Engineering trade
• Must have IELTS score of 6 in each band
• Knowledge of a wide range of Aid to Navigation equipment and its maintenance requirements.
• Knowledge of Aid to Navigation facilities and support systems.
• Ability to work safely from small boats, helicopters and light aircraft.
• An excellent understanding of solar power supplies, Low Volt systems (UPS, batteries, charging systems etc)
• An excellent understanding of communication systems such as VHF radio, DGPS, AIS, Radar, VTS, Monitoring Systems etc
• A good understanding of the software systems used in such applications

Essential:

• examining and testing machines, equipment, instruments and control systems to diagnose faults
• adjusting, repairing, and replacing worn and defective parts and wiring, and maintaining machines, equipment and instruments
• reassembling, test operating and adjusting equipment
• advising users of correct operating procedures to prevent malfunctions
• receiving messages by interpreting code and converting to plain language, and writing and typing messages for transmission
• monitoring radio traffic, and transmitting and receiving voice messages
• installing electronic instruments and control systems
• applying knowledge of electrical, electronic, mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic principles in commissioning and maintaining control systems
• carry out routine maintenance of electronic aids to navigation, information and communication facilities.
• attend to emergency radio / electronic maintenance work
• prepare maintenance schedules, work instructions and test procedures.
• prepare, update and maintain technical documentation, photographs and drawings associated with tasks undertaken.
• direct the work of contractors and other staff engaged in activities relating to the installation and maintenance of electronic aids to navigation, information and communication facilities, ensuring workplace safety, timeliness & quality of work and minimal environmental impact.
• undertake the modification, construction and repair of radio/electronic equipment.
• assess the serviceability of radio/electronic equipment and prepare associated reports.
• undertake routine work program planning.
• carry out purchasing of items of a non specialised nature used in the Maintenance Depot and in the field; ascertain the need for items of a specialised nature and initiate action for their procurement in accordance with Company procedures.
• assist with the dispatch, receipt, handling and storage of Electronic equipment

Qualifications and Experience

• Trade Qualifications as an Electronics Technician
• 5+ years of work experience as an electronics technician preferably in the maritime industry

Working Conditions : 

• The successful applicant will be reporting to the Operations Manager
• Candidate will be working in Western Australia and required to do around 100 days field work per year predominately on the Western Australian coast
• Salary will start from $53,342 per annum + 9% superannuation (depending on experience and skills)
• There is a requirement to be available for Emergency Work
• Field work involves working with 1-2 other staff and (job dependent) subcontractors. 
• Field work often means living, working and socialising very closely with 1 or 2 other people for up to 2 weeks. Attitudes, respect, hygiene etc is important.
• Work is often considered ‘remote’ so candidates need to have a good appreciation for OH&S, excellent planning skills, be adaptable, be precise.
• It’s a physical job – climbing ladders/towers, hauling batteries, stepping off boats onto fixed structures, working at heights, working with helicopters. Employees need to be fit, unaffected at heights, unaffected by seasickness etc.
